Overview
I Ching House Number Feng Shui (易经门牌风水) applies the 8-star pair system derived from the I Ching to analyse the feng shui energy of a residential or commercial address. Each consecutive digit pair in the street number maps to one of eight feng shui stars, each carrying distinct influences on wealth, health, romance, career, and family harmony. The system is widely used across Southeast Asia, particularly in Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, where property buyers and business owners routinely consult feng shui masters before committing to an address.
Origin
The 8-star pair system originates in the I Ching (易经) trigram tradition, where the eight trigrams (八卦) represent the fundamental forces of nature. In numerological feng shui, consecutive digit pairs are mapped to these eight forces, each associated with a classical star name and a set of life-domain influences. The practice of analysing house numbers through this lens developed in Chinese diaspora communities in Southeast Asia during the 20th century.
History
House number feng shui became mainstream in Malaysia and Singapore in the 1970s–1990s as urbanisation accelerated and apartment living made unit numbers a central part of daily identity. Property agents, feng shui masters, and eventually mobile apps began offering house number readings. The askTIAN API formalises this tradition with a structured, LLM-augmented analysis.
How It Works
The API extracts all digits from the input address number, groups them into consecutive pairs (e.g. 1234 → 12, 23, 34), and maps each pair to one of the eight I Ching stars using a modular lookup table. Each star is classified as auspicious (吉), inauspicious (凶), or neutral (中), with specific ratings for wealth, health, romance, career, and family. The dominant star type determines the overall rating (1–10). An LLM then synthesises a personalised interpretation in Chinese or English.
